Nuremberg, October 1, 2018 – New technologies, particularly the internet, have revolutionized the way we travel. Everything has been simplified. Finding information about destinations, accessing the first-hand experiences of other travelers, and of course comparing prices is all commonly done by people planning their trips now. This doesn’t only apply to hotels or airlines either as buses are now fully digitalized and many users already buy their tickets online.

Digital Bus User Profile

According to a study carried out by the international bus search engine, CheckMyBus, the most typical profile of the digital bus user in the United States is a woman between 25 and 34 years old, living in New York, who often travels to Boston and buys her tickets via her mobile phone between 5 and 10 pm.

This study shows that the highest percentage of users who purchase bus tickets online is between 25 and 34 years old, at 37% of the total number of users, while travelers between 35 and 44 years represent 17%. Those over 65 are those who to a lesser extent choose to buy bus tickets online and only represent 7% of the total number of travelers.

Passengers who book their buses online are concentrated in large cities. Specifically 32% in New York and 12% in Los Angeles. Dallas and Washington DC, with 10% each, are the next cities in the popularity index.

A slim majority of users, 53%, use their cellphone when buying tickets, while 40% use the computer, and only 7% do so with a tablet.

Most reservations are made between 6:00 and 10:00 p.m., however peak time can vary depending on the season. During the winter months, bookings tend to be concentrated between 4 and 7 p.m., however during summer time, booking primarily takes place between 6 and 10 p.m.

The Bus Routes With the Most Online Ticket Sales According to this study, the top five most popular routes that are booked online all connect the two most popular cities of origin recorded by online users. New York and Los Angeles connect to other major cities, such as Boston and San Diego, and of course different cultural and touristic points of interest on the east and west coasts.
